Richard “Dale” Wiley, the Assistant Principal of Hafen Elementary School, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education to his role. With 30 years in the field, including 25 years in school administration across various states and countries, Mr. Wiley has dedicated his career to improving educational outcomes for students. His extensive background includes positions in both rural and urban schools, where he has served in roles ranging from Superintendent of Schools to Head Boys Athletics Coach. His journey in education began after he decided to forgo a promising law career to fulfill his true calling—making a positive impact on children’s lives.

Mr. Wiley’s vision for Hafen Elementary School is clear: elevate the school to a 5-Star Status while fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. “Using my decades of proven experience in successfully helping schools improve academically, my goal is to help Hafen achieve excellence,” he shared. He emphasizes the importance of creating an environment where students enjoy coming to school, teachers feel supported and valued, and parents take pride in being part of the Scorpions community.

A typical day for Mr. Wiley is anything but predictable. “Every day is an adrenaline-fueled, nonstop, supersonic rocket ride of new experiences, excitement, surprises, and opportunities to learn,” he described. He thrives in the dynamic environment of a school, where challenges are met with creative problem-solving. The greatest rewards for him come from seeing students smile and knowing that his efforts contribute to their happiness and well-being.

Engaging with students, parents, and the broader community is a cornerstone of Mr. Wiley’s approach. He makes a concerted effort to give everyone he interacts with his fullest attention, ensuring they feel valued and understood. “Students, parents, teachers, staff, and community stakeholders are all valued partners in the educational process,” he explained. By working together towards shared goals, Mr. Wiley believes that great results can be achieved, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the school’s success.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Wiley enjoys a variety of personal interests that help him maintain a healthy work-life balance. He loves hiking, meditating, reading, spending time with his family, playing acoustic guitar, exercising, and watching sports. “My ‘me time’ provides me the much-needed balance and time to recharge my spiritual batteries,” he said. This balance allows him to return to his role with renewed compassion, enthusiasm, and positive energy.

Reflecting on his career and his role at Hafen Elementary, Mr. Wiley expressed deep gratitude and pride. “I cannot imagine a more noble profession than being an educator, and I consider it an honor, privilege, and blessing to serve in a school leadership position at Hafen,” he stated. With a firm belief that the best days for the school are still ahead, Mr. Wiley is committed to leading Hafen Elementary to new heights, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed in a supportive and nurturing environment.
