The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ basketball team welcomed the Virgin Valley Bulldogs to Pahrump on Friday, January 23, battling through a fast-paced, physical matchup that tested the Lady Trojans at both ends of the floor.
Virgin Valley opened the scoring early, capitalizing on quick transitions and pressure defense. Pahrump Valley answered at the 7:06 mark of the first quarter when Riley Saldaña drove strong to the basket, finishing through contact and completing the three-point play. The Lady Trojans continued to look for opportunities inside, with Saldaña later finding Kaitlyn Brown for a basket in the paint midway through the quarter. Despite the effort, Virgin Valley’s pressure forced turnovers and helped them build a 22–9 lead by the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Pahrump Valley worked to settle into the game. Addi Nelsen provided a spark on both ends, grabbing a steal and converting it into a layup before knocking down a three-pointer to cut into the deficit. Saldaña added steady production at the free-throw line, and the Lady Trojans continued to battle on the glass. Virgin Valley, however, maintained its rhythm offensively, closing the half with a 43–16 advantage.
The Lady Trojans came out with renewed energy after the break. Sydney Crotty opened the third quarter by attacking the basket, scoring and earning trips to the free-throw line. Brown added points at the stripe, while Ella Odegard finished inside late in the quarter. Pahrump Valley continued to compete possession by possession, ending the third quarter down 54–26.

In the final quarter, the Lady Trojans kept pushing. Saldaña scored early with a pair of free throws and followed with a strong finish inside. Brown and Nelsen continued to challenge Virgin Valley’s defense, and Pahrump Valley stayed aggressive despite the Bulldogs extending their lead. The game concluded with a 66–30 final score.
While the outcome favored Virgin Valley, the Lady Trojans showed resilience throughout the night, continuing to attack the basket, draw fouls, and compete defensively against a high-pressure opponent. Pahrump Valley will look to build on the effort as they prepare for their upcoming games, taking lessons from the experience and continuing to grow as the season moves forward.
