Since first hitting the road in September of 2015, Kaucky Tool Company has grown into a familiar and trusted presence for mechanics throughout Pahrump and the Las Vegas Valley. Now more than ten years into business, owner and operator Brent Kaucky continues to do what he set out to do from the beginning—bring tools directly to the people who rely on them every day.
“I just drive around every week selling tools to guys,” Kaucky said with a laugh. “Cracking jokes. You know, the humor’s free—the tools aren’t.”
Kaucky Tool Company operates as a mobile tool truck, following a consistent weekly route that takes Kaucky shop to shop and bay to bay. Instead of customers needing to leave work or wait on shipments, the tools come straight to them. Each stop serves multiple purposes, from selling equipment and collecting weekly payments to handling warranties and answering questions.
“I drive a route—very similar route every week,” Kaucky explained. “You want to hit the same shops, especially when they’re making payments. That also gives them a chance to say, ‘Hey, I broke this,’ or ‘I need something today.’ That’s the biggest advantage. Most of the time, I’ve got it right there.”
As an independent dealer rather than a franchise operator, Kaucky has flexibility in what he carries. His truck is stocked almost entirely with automotive tools, which make up about 99 percent of his inventory. Customers will find familiar brands like GearWrench, Milwaukee, K-Tools, and Sun-X lining the shelves.

“I tell everybody I sell the same tools as everyone else, just with the original label on them,” he said. “Mostly automotive tools—wrenches, screwdrivers, stuff guys use every day.”
While the tools themselves are widely recognized, Kaucky says the service model is what truly sets his business apart. One of the biggest benefits he offers is flexible payment options, allowing customers to get the tools they need immediately rather than waiting.
“The biggest thing we offer is interest repayments,” Kaucky said. “If they need a tool that day, they can make payments on it and keep working.”
Although Pahrump is home base, Kaucky’s routes extend beyond town limits. Three days a week are spent servicing shops in Las Vegas, with the remaining time dedicated to local customers. The business is overwhelmingly direct-to-consumer.
“I’d say about 98 percent of it is business-to-consumer,” he said. “I do have businesses that buy from me, but it’s mostly individual mechanics.”
Kaucky Tool Company has grown almost entirely through word of mouth. There is no website or online storefront—just a phone number passed along from one shop to another.

“It’s mostly word of mouth and calls,” Kaucky said. “Someone says, ‘I need a tool,’ and the answer is, ‘Call Brent. Maybe he has it.’”
Kaucky does not set up roadside displays or temporary sales locations. Instead, he focuses on consistency and reliability, showing up week after week at the same locations. That approach has helped him build long-standing relationships with customers who know when to expect him and trust that he will follow through.
The business remains largely a one-man operation, though Kaucky does have one employee.
“Technically, I have one employee… Quinn,” he said, proud of his daughter’s interest in his business. “She’s been employed since she was 13. She works hard. I never have to ask where she went or why something wasn’t done.”

While Quinn is not yet old enough to drive the tool truck, her involvement reflects the family-oriented nature of the business and Kaucky’s commitment to teaching responsibility and work ethic.
When it comes to owning his own business, Kaucky says the freedom is rewarding—but it comes with significant responsibility.
“I don’t have one boss—I’ve got about 400,” he said. “If somebody needs something, I’ve got to be there and figure out a way to get it done. It’s freedom, but it’s also a lot of stress. If you screw up, it’s all on you.”
His schedule reflects that reality. Monday through Thursday are dedicated to running routes, while Fridays are used to catch up on tasks, visit customers he may have missed, or take care of banking and other responsibilities. Weekends are often spent cleaning, reorganizing, and merchandising the truck in preparation for the next week.
“It’s kind of seven days a week,” Kaucky said. “Friday, Saturday, Sunday I’m working, but not all day. It gives me the flexibility to do family things.”
Over the years, the tool truck itself has evolved. Kaucky is currently operating his third truck after losing two previous ones in traffic accidents that were not his fault.

“I’ve been in two wrecks now,” Kaucky said. “Neither one was my fault. One guy fell asleep and blew a red light. The other time, two trucks ran into each other and then ran into me.”
While the incidents were frustrating and costly, Kaucky says they never slowed his commitment to the business. Each time, he worked to get back on the road as quickly as possible so his customers were not left without service.
Despite everything, Kaucky still holds a special place for his first truck—not because of the equipment or layout, but because of what it meant to his family.
“The first truck was my youngest son’s favorite,” Kaucky said. “That one always stuck with us.”
More than ten years after starting Kaucky Tool Company, Brent Kaucky continues to rely on consistency, personal service, and relationships to keep the business moving forward. In an industry where downtime costs money and dependable tools matter, his rolling storefront remains a trusted resource—one built on showing up, solving problems, and making sure mechanics have what they need to do their jobs.
