The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity boys volleyball team faced a tough test on the road Monday, April 27, traveling to take on Doral Academy Red Rock. Despite moments of strong play and flashes of potential, the Trojans ultimately fell in straight sets, 25-10, 25-13.
From the opening serve, both teams showed early nerves, with rallies disrupted by missed returns and service struggles on both sides. Doral Red Rock capitalized first, building an early 3-0 lead as Pahrump Valley worked to settle in. The Trojans responded with a quick push, highlighted by a service run from Kayden Doubleday that helped close the gap to 4-1, and a well-placed tip to open floor that made it 5-2.
As the set progressed, Doral began to find a rhythm offensively, using a mix of deep spikes and well-placed shots to stretch their lead. Pahrump Valley continued to battle, cutting into the deficit at times with points off opponent errors and hustle plays. A block from George Anderson and another short run behind Doubleday’s serving brought the score to 16-9, but the home team answered with a series of aces and aggressive swings to regain control.

The Trojans called a timeout late in the set, looking to regroup, but Doral maintained pressure down the stretch. A late point from Blake Edie-Dixon, who forced a net violation, provided a brief spark before the Dragons closed out the set 25-10.
The second set opened with a more confident start from Pahrump Valley, as they grabbed the first point and extended the lead to 2-0 on a long rally finished by Anderson. The Trojans showed improved communication early, but Doral quickly responded, stringing together points behind strong serving and forcing errors to take a 9-3 advantage.
Pahrump Valley continued to look for answers, finding success at times with aggressive swings and better ball placement. Edie-Dixon delivered an ace during a mid-set run, and the Trojans took advantage of a few Doral miscues to close the gap to 15-8. However, the Dragons again leaned on consistent serving and smart touches at the net, including a series of tips that proved difficult to defend.

Despite continued effort from the Trojans, including a late point when Doral couldn’t return a serve, the deficit proved too much to overcome. Doral closed out the match with a 25-13 win in the second set.
While the final score didn’t fall in their favor, the Trojans showed resilience throughout the match, continuing to fight for points and adjust against a disciplined opponent. With improved communication and consistency, the foundation is there for Pahrump Valley to build on as they continue through the remainder of the season.
