The spotlight was shining bright on Pahrump Valley High School theatre students as they delivered standout performances at the Southern Nevada Regional Thespys, held January 31 at The Meadows. The Trojans returned home celebrating.

“This weekend was incredible!! Most awards EVER!” PVHS Theatre Direct Dr. Duvall shared, reflecting the excitement surrounding the students’ accomplishments and the continued growth of the PVHS theatre program.

Among the highlights of the competition, two student duos earned prestigious Top 15% Regional Superior ratings, placing them among the strongest performances in the region. Kylee Siegmund and Luigi DeAngelis received the distinction for their Two-Person Scene performance of “Know Your Role” by Brandi Owensbi. The pair demonstrated strong character work, timing, and stage presence to capture the attention of adjudicators.

Another standout pairing included Addie Allen and Zachary LeBlanc, who also earned a Top 15% Regional Superior rating for their Musical Theatre Duet performance of “Suddenly Seymour.” Their musical delivery, emotional connection, and theatrical chemistry helped them secure one of the highest recognitions available at the event.

In addition to the Superior honors, PVHS theatre students earned Excellent ratings for their One-Act performance, showcasing the strength of the program’s ensemble work and collaboration on stage. Actors recognized with Excellent ratings included Chase Moore, Kylee Siegmund, Addie Allen, Luigi DeAngelis, Tara DeGoede, Zachary Leblanc, Lyndon Steeno, Jae Arian, Ellarose Brondo, and Skyler Fulde. Together, the group delivered a performance that demonstrated storytelling, character development, and teamwork—key components of successful theatre production.

Behind the scenes, PVHS technical theatre students also earned Excellent ratings, highlighting the importance of production elements that bring performances to life. Technical crew members Kaitlyn Gaither, Ethan Murphy, Ethan O’Rourke, and Breeanna Smiley-Alley were recognized for their contributions managing the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show.

Technical theatre plays a vital role in any production. Students in these roles oversee elements such as stage management, set design, sound effects, lighting cues, spotlights, and prop and set movement. Their ability to coordinate these moving parts ensures that actors can perform seamlessly and that audiences experience a polished final production.

The Thespys competition uses a 20-point scoring system that ranges from Fair to Good, Excellent, and Superior. Excellent ratings typically fall within the 10- to 15-point range, while Superior ratings represent scores of approximately 16 to 20 points or higher. Achieving Superior placement in the Top 15% of performances places students among the highest-ranking participants in the region, making the accomplishment particularly notable for the PVHS program.

The success at this year’s Southern Regional Thespys reflects not only individual talent but also the strong culture of collaboration and dedication within the PVHS theatre department. With students excelling both on stage and behind the scenes, the program continues to build momentum and establish itself as a growing force in regional theatre competitions.

As the curtain closes on another successful Thespys season, the recognition earned by PVHS theatre students stands as a testament to their creativity, hard work, and passion for the performing arts—qualities that continue to elevate the Trojans theatre program.
