PVHS Girls’ Soccer Overwhelms Sloan Canyon in 13-0 Victory

The Pahrump Valley High School (PVHS) Girls’ Soccer team delivered an emphatic victory on October 15, dismantling Sloan Canyon 13-0 in a performance marked by precision, teamwork, and renewed enthusiasm. The game, which ended early under the mercy rule, saw the Trojans score five goals in the first ten minutes, setting the tone for one of their most complete performances of the season.

From the outset, PVHS controlled the pace, moving the ball effortlessly across the field. Head Coach Amy Carlson emphasized that the win was not just about the scoreline but the way the team rediscovered the joy of playing. “It was a fun game to watch, not because of the score, but because the girls played extremely well, controlled the game, and just had fun,” Carlson said. “This has been the biggest element missing from the season. They’ve been putting so much pressure on themselves to win that they’ve worn themselves out trying to score, and it took the fun out of the game. Tonight, they just played soccer and put on a great show.”

The Trojans showed off crisp passing, intelligent movement, and excellent communication throughout the game. By halftime, the team led 12-0, giving them the opportunity to shift focus in the second half. Carlson praised the players for their selfless play, noting that they actively worked to create scoring chances for teammates who hadn’t scored this season.

“There are no selfish players on this team,” Carlson said. “Everyone on both JV and Varsity wants their teammates to score as much as they do themselves. Their sense of accomplishment and excitement tonight was the best feeling to see. They’ve needed this big win for a long time—it was a long time coming, and they earned it.”

Natalia Vallin led the scoring with four goals, demonstrating her versatility by excelling on both ends of the field. She orchestrated plays from midfield, delivering precise passes and crosses to set up teammates for scoring opportunities. Ryleigh Denton added three goals, controlling the midfield with poise and creativity. Denton also made her debut as goalkeeper in the second half, further showcasing her adaptability and leadership.

Shaelee Boucher and Sydney Crotty each scored twice, contributing to the relentless attack that left Sloan Canyon struggling to contain the Trojans. Valery Romero dazzled with her footwork throughout the game, narrowly missing the net on several occasions before securing a goal of her own.

Khylar Park scored one of the game’s most memorable goals with a long-range penalty kick from the 30-yard line, sending the ball past Sloan Canyon’s goalkeeper. Park later shifted to the right wing, where she continued to create scoring opportunities and apply pressure to the defense.

The defensive unit also played a crucial role, ensuring the game stayed entirely in PVHS’s favor. Goalkeeper Madison Mendenhall had little to do in the first half, with Sloan Canyon unable to mount any serious offensive threat. In the second half, Mendenhall joined forces with Vallin on defense, ensuring that any attempted advances were quickly neutralized.

Throughout the game, the team exhibited some of their best passing sequences of the season. Each pass was precise, and the chemistry between players was evident in the way they seamlessly connected across the field. This cohesion allowed the Trojans to dominate possession, control the tempo, and create continuous scoring chances.

“This was the kind of performance we’ve been telling them all season they were capable of,” Carlson said. “They showed off the skills that we as coaches knew were always inside them. Seeing them play this way, with joy and freedom, was incredible.”

The win was more than just a victory; it was a confidence boost that the Trojans hope to carry into their next match. Carlson noted the importance of building on this momentum as the team prepares to face Boulder City.

“We’re looking forward to taking this momentum with us to Boulder City on Thursday,” Carlson said. “It’s exactly what we needed at this point in the season.”

With this dominant performance, the PVHS Girls’ Soccer team reminded everyone—most importantly, themselves—of what they are capable of when they play with confidence, connection, and joy. The Trojans are eager to carry this energy forward as they aim to finish the season on a high note.
