The Pahrump Valley High School Girls’ Soccer teams continued their strong season with wins at home against Mojave on October 7, 2024, with both JV and Varsity teams showing determination and skill on the field.
The JV team claimed a decisive 4-0 victory over Mojave. Sophomore Rosie Miller led the charge, netting the first three goals for the Trojans and demonstrating her ability to lead the team offensively. Poala Aguilar Alarcon rounded out the scoring with a fourth goal, which came about 10 minutes into the second half. Cindal Monahan, the team’s primary corner kicker, made an impact with 10 corner kick attempts, nearly converting several into goals. Defensively, Jazmyn Herrera stood out in the second half, making several key stops to keep Mojave from finding the back of the net.
The varsity team also emerged victorious, defeating Mojave 3-1 in a game that brought them closer to securing a spot in Regionals. Despite missing a couple of key players, the team showed resilience and adaptability, with players stepping into new positions as needed.
Head Coach Amy Carlson praised the team for their grit but also noted their tendency to overwork themselves in pursuit of a win.
“They really wanted the win and overworked themselves to get it,” Carlson said. “But they brought home the win, and that was key. We are still down a couple of players, which has been a big hurdle for us this year, but the girls have stepped up and had to switch positions, some of them on a weekly basis.”
Carlson also emphasized that the team’s biggest challenge often comes from within, as they sometimes push themselves too hard instead of playing a simpler game.
“The best thing about this season is that the girls are their own biggest opponent,” she said. “Most games, they get in their own way and overwork themselves instead of just playing simple. They have what it takes to get where they want, and they work each game to figure out how to get there. Some days are easier, and others we make it a little harder than it needs to be, but we are on the right path.”
With this win, the Trojans continue to build momentum as they approach the crucial stages of their season, aiming for a strong finish and a spot in the Regional tournament.
