PVHS Boys’ Soccer Shows Promise Despite Tough Loss to SLAM

The PVHS boys’ soccer team faced a challenging match against SLAM on Wednesday, September 4, falling 1-7 in a tough contest. Despite the scoreline, there were positive takeaways for the Trojans as they showed glimpses of progress, particularly in the early stages of the game.

The lone goal for PVHS was scored by Callum Atwell, who was named Player of the Game for his aggressive play on offense. “Callum really stepped up on the offensive side,” said Head Coach Andrew Norton. “His energy and determination were key in our attack.”

Coach Norton also highlighted the team’s solid start against a top division opponent. “The defense went right, and we played well with the kids. We finally started to see some progress,” Norton noted. “The first 20 minutes were great, with short passes and good movement. Unfortunately, we got tired, and things got a little sloppy.”

The Trojans’ goalkeeper had a busy game, facing 24 shots on goal and managing to block 17 of them, showing resilience despite the pressure. “Caden Cowley made some fantastic saves in the goal, which kept us in the game longer,” Norton added.

Looking ahead, the team is focusing on improving endurance and learning to move into space to receive passes more effectively. These adjustments are aimed at strengthening their overall play and maintaining the intensity they showed in the opening minutes against SLAM.

PVHS boys’ soccer will be looking to bounce back in their next match against Cristo Rey on Friday night, where they will have a full roster available. “With a full team, we’re hoping to build on the progress we made and continue to develop as a unit,” said Norton.

As the season continues, the Trojans are committed to working hard and learning from each game, with their sights set on future successes.
