As Gabriel Flores reflects on his years at Pahrump Valley High School, he can easily recall the moments and experiences that have shaped his high school journey. From leading the JROTC platoon as a freshman to starting the PVHS Chess Club with his teacher, Dabrowski in his sophomore year, Gabriel’s involvement in diverse activities has been a significant part of his growth. “Learning how to use a lathe and mill in machine shop during my junior year was one of the most rewarding experiences,” he shared.

Gabriel’s high school experience has been enriched by his passion for archery, backcountry hunting, and long-range precision rifle shooting. These activities not only allowed him to develop new skills but also helped him become more social and confident. “All of this has impacted my high school experience because it gave me a lot more to talk about and allowed me to be more social,” he said.

Among his many accomplishments, Gabriel is particularly proud of his first mule deer, winning five out of six archery competitions, completing a 16-mile hike in six hours, and successfully making a one-mile shot. These milestones are a testament to his dedication and determination in his pursuits.

Looking ahead, Gabriel plans to work with the Nevada Department of Wildlife as a game warden or to become a deputy with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. His passion for the outdoors and commitment to protecting wildlife and the community are evident in his future aspirations.

As he prepares to graduate, Gabriel offers some advice to underclassmen: “Have fun, don’t stress about your work, and always ask questions.” His words of wisdom reflect the importance of balance, curiosity, and enjoying the journey through high school.

As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, there’s no doubt he will continue to achieve great things.
