Stephanie Sanchez, a dynamic and talented entertainer, has been a vibrant part of the Pahrump community for the past eight years. Born in Las Vegas and raised in Indian Springs, Stephanie’s journey in entertainment began at a young age, cultivating a passion that would eventually lead her to a flourishing career in music and dance. “I grew up playing instruments and singing, and by 17, I was already performing on stage,” she recalls. Stephanie’s natural talent and dedication to her craft have allowed her to perform in various prestigious venues and take on numerous roles throughout her career.
Stephanie’s family plays a significant role in her life and career. As the youngest of seven children, she often collaborated with her siblings, creating a strong bond that extends into her musical endeavors. “My brother Rico and I started writing music together, and we even have a CD called ‘Small Town.’ We’ve played at places like House of Blues in Vegas and around Pahrump,” she shares. Stephanie’s two children, Shelby and Benjamin, are also integral to her life. Shelby, who recently turned 29 and is about to have a baby, shares many traits with her mother, while Benjamin, 36, is autistic and lives with Stephanie. “He will be with me always,” she says, reflecting on the joy and responsibility of caring for her son.
Stephanie’s path in entertainment has been a series of bold moves and remarkable experiences. She studied at UNLV but soon realized she needed to be where the action was, leading her to Los Angeles and then to the bustling streets of New York City. Motivated by a lifelong passion for performing, Stephanie moved to New York with dreams of dancing on Broadway and meeting her idol, the legendary Ann Reinking. “I was young and had big dreams,” she recalls. “I moved to New York and I met Ann Reinking, which was a pivotal moment for me. I got to learn the Cassie dance from ‘A Chorus Line’ and other iconic routines directly from her. It was an incredible experience.”
However, the reality of life in New York was different from what she had imagined. “It was cold, and I missed my family terribly,” Stephanie shares. “I realized that the price of being there and the sacrifices I had to make were not worth it. The entertainment scene in Las Vegas had always felt like home, and the sense of community there was unmatched.” This realization led her back to Las Vegas, where she continued to thrive in her career, ultimately finding a balance between her professional aspirations and personal happiness. Working a show in Las Vegas is like working any other job. “It’s a community where being a performer is just like any other job. You have insurance, a family, a house, and it’s a norm,” she explains. This unique environment provided the stability and support she needed to thrive in her career.
Throughout her journey, Stephanie has embraced every opportunity with a fearless attitude. “Most of the fun I’ve had is because I’m willing to wing anything. I just go for it,” she says. One memorable moment was when she had to step in to sing the national anthem for an event with Shaquille O’Neal at Planet Hollywood. “The singer didn’t want to come downstairs, and luckily, the PR guy knew me. So, I chugged my drink and went up to sing,” she laughs. This adventurous spirit has led to many exciting and sometimes challenging experiences.
Stephanie’s career is filled with highlights that showcase her versatility and willingness to take on new challenges. In 2002, she had the incredible opportunity to work with P!nk for the Billboard Music Awards, an experience that stands out in her memory. She also played a significant role in “At The Copa” alongside David Cassidy and Sheena Easton at the Rio Hotel in 2000, where she delivered performances that captivated audiences. Moreover, her talents shone brightly in “Enter The Night” at the Stardust Hotel in 1991, where she was part of a production that left a lasting impression on the Las Vegas entertainment scene. Each of these opportunities has contributed to her rich and diverse career, underscoring her ability to adapt and excel in various entertainment settings.
Stephanie’s career in Las Vegas flourished with memorable performances in renowned shows such as “Mamma Mia” and “Fantasy.” As Donna in “Mamma Mia,” Stephanie found herself in a role that resonated deeply with her, blending her powerful vocals with her dynamic stage presence. “Playing Donna was a wonderful experience,” she says. “The music fit my voice perfectly, and the character’s journey was both fun and challenging.”
Stephanie also worked as the lead singer in “Fantasy” at the Luxor, a show that showcased her versatility and star power. “Fantasy was an incredible platform where I got to perform nightly, connecting with audiences and honing my craft in a show that celebrated glamour and entertainment.” Her time in these productions solidified her reputation as a talented and dedicated performer in the Las Vegas entertainment scene. From headlining, Stephanie transitioned to an executive role where she is in charge of booking talent, giving her a true “both sides of the coin” experience.
As an entertainer, Stephanie has had her share of physical and emotional challenges. She recounts her role as Ursula in a Super Summer Theater production of “The Little Mermaid,” where she performed despite being ill and even cracked a couple of ribs during the show. “It was very glamorous,” she jokes, recalling the ordeal. Her ability to push through adversity and deliver outstanding performances is a testament to her dedication and resilience. The “best” part of her injury was her best friend and production choreographer Keith Dotson stepping in as her understudy for the night. “That, by far, is the highlight of that performance for me. To be backstage and have that moment because, you know, Ursula is a character, and it’s great and wonderful, and it’ll live on as a nice memory. But I think that experience is going to be so memorable for him, and that makes it even more special.”
Stephanie’s move to Pahrump has provided a much-needed balance between her bustling career and personal life. Living close to her family, she enjoys the slower pace and the sense of community. “Moving out here makes me slow down. It’s medicinal,” she says. The commute to Vegas gives her time to prepare for work and unwind afterward, offering a perfect blend of city excitement and rural tranquility.
Her creative process is deeply influenced by her family and surroundings. “My music is very acoustic-driven because my brother plays the acoustic guitar. Writing about my family and life experiences makes it very personal,” she notes. This personal touch extends to her performances, where she connects with her audience on a profound level.
In addition to her musical talents, Stephanie is also involved in other creative ventures. She runs a website called Bohemian Junkie, where she showcases her recycled furniture, art and jewelry. “I love the hunt of finding what I want to do with thrifted items and fixing them up,” she explains. This hobby not only satisfies her creative urges but also pays homage to her father’s skills and influence. “I’m a unique mix of all things girly, combined with a love of being out in the garage and welding. I’m weird, and that’s okay,” Stephanie jokes.
Stephanie’s contributions to the community go beyond entertainment. She participates in local craft fairs and supports local initiatives, bringing friends and fellow performers from Vegas to share their talents with Pahrump. “I want to give back to this community because it’s my home,” she says. Her goal is to create a space where people can come together, enjoy great music, and feel a sense of belonging.
For aspiring musicians and actors, Stephanie’s advice is straightforward: “Just keep doing it. Everything is a muscle. You’ve got to listen to yourself and get people around you that you trust.” Her journey is a shining example of perseverance, passion, and the importance of staying true to oneself.
