The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ varsity soccer team continued pursuing scoring opportunities and made several timely defensive stops against Moapa Valley on Monday, Oct. 5, finishing with a 4-0 loss to the Pirates at home.
Goalkeeper Jazmyn Herrera handled repeated pressure throughout the match, while Avery Farruggia helped lead Pahrump’s efforts to move the ball into scoring position. The Lady Trojans kept the match within one goal through halftime before Moapa Valley added three goals in the second half.
Herrera made an early stop with 34:21 remaining in the first half, turning away a Pirates shot before the Trojans knocked the ball clear. Pahrump responded with a run toward the opposing goal a few minutes later, working to establish its own attack.
Moapa Valley scored with approximately 30 minutes remaining to take a 1-0 lead. Herrera collected another ball shortly afterward, and the Lady Trojans pushed back upfield, getting close to the Pirates’ goal around the 25-minute mark.
Farruggia created a chance with approximately 20 minutes left in the half, shooting from the left corner before Moapa Valley’s goalkeeper caught the attempt. At the other end, Herrera came off her line to pick up a ball with 18:39 remaining, preventing the Pirates from continuing that possession toward the net.






Cindal Monahan took a free kick from roughly 35 yards out as Pahrump looked for another opportunity to advance its attack. Herrera continued handling balls that reached her, picking up a slow roller with about 11 minutes remaining and knocking away another ball near the seven-minute mark.
The Lady Trojans made another push up the left side with approximately 5:30 left, but the Pirates’ goalkeeper came out and covered the ball. Pahrump entered halftime trailing 1-0, with the opportunity to draw even still within reach.
Herrera was involved immediately after the break, coming out to collect the ball with 39:30 remaining. Soon afterward, Pahrump’s defenders worked through pressure near their goal as Moapa Valley earned a corner kick. The ensuing sequence included several touches and a ball that struck the post.
The Lady Trojans moved the action back toward Moapa Valley’s goal with approximately 33:30 remaining, but the Pirates cleared the ball before Pahrump could finish the opportunity.
Moapa Valley extended its lead with about 29 minutes left, sending a rolling shot from the right side into the left corner of the goal. Herrera knocked down another ball around the 26-minute mark, continuing to make stops as the Pirates pressed forward.
The visitors added their third goal with approximately 22 minutes remaining. A minute later, Carmen Gonzales cleared a Moapa Valley corner kick, helping Pahrump move the ball away from the immediate danger around its net.
Patience Moore drew a foul near midfield with about 19:30 left, giving the Lady Trojans a free kick and a chance to build another possession. Farruggia added a shot around the 17-minute mark as Pahrump continued searching for a goal.






Moapa Valley scored again with approximately 14 minutes remaining to make it 4-0. The Lady Trojans continued their attacking efforts, with Farruggia racing toward a ball near the goal before the Pirates’ goalkeeper came out and Farruggia went down on the play.
Even in the closing minutes, Pahrump kept looking to connect in the attacking end. With about two minutes remaining, Farruggia carried the ball downfield and centered it, creating one more opportunity for the Lady Trojans.
Herrera’s stops, Gonzales’ clearance and Pahrump’s continued runs toward goal reflected a team that stayed involved throughout the match. The Lady Trojans kept working for a finish through the final minutes, maintaining their effort at both ends of the field.
