Lady Trojans Gain Valuable Experience at WolfPack Girls Classic

The Pahrump Valley High School girls wrestling team continued to build experience and confidence as they competed in the WolfPack Girls Classic at Basic High School on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025. Representing the Lady Trojans were first-year wrestlers Quinn Kaucky and Patience Moore, who faced a challenging field filled with seasoned competitors from across the region.

At 125 pounds, Kaucky battled through multiple tough matches against experienced opponents. In the preliminary round, she was matched up with Isabelle Anguiano of Basic High School, who secured a fall at 2:54. Kaucky later faced Lucilla Castellanos of Las Vegas in the championship round, where Castellanos earned a fall at 1:06. While Kaucky did not place in the tournament and finished with no team points, the matches provided important mat time against high-level competition.

Moore competed in the 130-pound division and also encountered a demanding bracket. In the championship round, she faced Chanity Faletoi of Liberty High School, who won by technical fall, 17–2. Moore then returned to the mat in the consolation round, where she wrestled Thifany Ortega of Cheyenne High School and fell at 1:36. Like Kaucky, Moore did not place, but gained valuable experience competing against wrestlers with multiple years in the sport.

Girls wrestling head coach Elliott Owens emphasized the importance of growth and attitude as the season progresses.

“Our girls this weekend, Patience Moore at 130 and Quinn Kaucky at 120, had a tough weekend but took a lot from it,” Owens said. “For first-year wrestlers it’s a pretty steep curve, and both girls have done really well about keeping a great attitude throughout the process, arguably the hardest part when your opponents have been doing it for multiple years.”

Owens also noted that the Lady Trojans were not at full strength for the tournament due to illness and holiday travel, limiting the number of athletes able to compete.

“We were missing a couple wrestlers this weekend due to sickness and holiday travel,” he said. “Looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully getting all four girls out there competing.”

While the results did not reflect podium finishes, the WolfPack Girls Classic served as another step forward for Pahrump Valley’s growing girls wrestling program. With continued mat time, strong attitudes, and a full roster expected later in the season, the Lady Trojans are focused on development and progress as they move into the heart of the wrestling schedule.
