The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity and varsity flag football teams traveled to Las Vegas on Monday, December 8 to take on the Chaparral Cowboys. While the Cowboys secured the wins, the Lady Trojans showed clear progress, strong defensive effort, and several standout moments from players on both squads.

The JV team opened the day and immediately leaned on its defense to slow Chaparral’s early momentum. Biannet Lozano Chávez was a consistent bright spot, pulling multiple flags to prevent touchdowns and stopping conversion attempts. Tianna Beaver added a key pull to halt a Chaparral drive, and Keelee Gieni came up with important stops on the run. Kylie Horn and Beaver both made impactful plays at the line, with Beaver recording sacks during the game. Arianna Lozoya also broke up passes and nearly came away with interceptions, while Carmella Goudeau made tackles that limited Chaparral’s gains. Offensively, Zoey Gonzalez gave the Trojans a spark with a first-down run, and quarterbacks Alexa Kumm and later Diona Nixon worked to keep drives alive. Nixon picked up multiple runs and showed composure directing the offense late in the game. Despite their efforts, PVHS was unable to reach the end zone, and the JV contest ended with a 26–0 final.

Varsity also had strong moments, highlighted by two interceptions from Ember Castaneda and several near-interceptions from Arianna Lozoya. The Trojans put together creative offensive looks, including a double pass that resulted in a gain of more than 20 yards—one of the team’s best plays of the day. Though Chaparral capitalized quickly on a few turnovers, PVHS continued to battle on both sides of the ball and kept pressure on the Cowboys throughout the matchup. The varsity game concluded with a 34–0 score.

Head Coach Jeff Corbett said he is proud of the growth he is seeing early in the season. “We’re doing better! Two interceptions by Ember Castaneda and more almosts that were dropped by Arianna Lozoya. We made some big plays on offense. A double pass worked for a 20+ yard gain. JV did well too—if you take away the two interceptions that we had and they scored quick, it would’ve been a much tighter game as well.”

Though the scores favored Chaparral, the Lady Trojans walked away with confidence in their progress, their teamwork, and the foundation they are building as the season continues.
