CCA Students Learn the Roots of Farming at Green Life Produce

First graders from Community Christian Academy (CCA) experienced a hands-on lesson in agriculture when they toured Green Life Produce this week, getting the chance to see how vegetables grow—and even harvest carrots themselves.

The visit was part of CCA’s “farm day” program, designed to help students better understand where their food comes from. “We wanted to come out because we’re doing a farm day program with the school,” explained first grade teacher Mrs. Diedrick. “We thought this would be a great place for them to learn about farming and how vegetables are grown, and to see that there’s a little more detail to it than just throwing a seed in the ground and watching it pop up.”

The tour, hosted by Green Life Produce’s Steve Cantwell, included an up-close look at how different plants grow and the care that goes into maintaining a thriving garden. But the highlight for the young students came when they were invited to pull carrots straight from the soil. “That was so fun,” said Mrs. Diedrick with a smile. “The excitement on their faces when they pulled the carrots out of the ground was incredible. It’s such an educational experience to see where food really comes from.”

CCA brought 24 first graders to the farm, along with several parents and younger siblings. Parents helped transport students to the site and stayed to participate in the morning’s activities. After the visit, the group continued the day with a picnic and games at a local park. “It’s just a fun, family kind of field trip,” said Mrs. Diedrick.

The teachers hope this will be the first of many farm-related experiences for their students. “We’re going to actually grow some little plants in our garden,” Mrs. Diedrick added, noting plans to start planting in October when the weather is cooler.

For the students of Community Christian Academy, the day at Green Life Produce was more than a field trip—it was a lesson in growth, patience, and appreciation for the process behind the food on their tables.
