The Living Free Art for Recovery fundraiser, held on Saturday, March 8th, was a resounding success, bringing together nearly 190 supporters for an evening of art, generosity, and community spirit. This year’s event was the first to sell out, underscoring the growing support for Living Free Health and its mission to provide addiction and mental health treatment, transitional housing, and therapeutic work programs.

With the help of generous donors and enthusiastic bidders, the event raised an impressive $31,000. The highlight of the auction was “Watercolor Morning River” by Charyl Madeline, which fetched the highest bid of the evening at $800. Both live and silent auctions featured an array of original artwork and unique items, all donated by talented artists and community members who believe in the mission of Living Free Health.

Shelley Poerio, Founder of Living Free Health, opened the evening with heartfelt words of gratitude. She emphasized the importance of this annual fundraiser, the only major fundraising event for Living Free Health, and shared insights into the organization’s impact. From providing addiction and co-occurring mental health treatment to offering transitional housing and a specialized women and children’s program, Living Free Health plays a crucial role in Nye County.

“Without Living Free, our community would take a giant step backward in delivering quality, robust, whole-health solutions to the intractable problem of substance misuse and its consequences and costs to society,” Poerio stated. She highlighted that over $200,000 in services and goods were provided in 2024 alone without reimbursement from grants or insurance. These services include housing, mental health treatment, nutrition classes, infant care, and essential items for clients.

Attendees also heard inspiring stories from individuals whose lives have been transformed through Living Free’s programs. The evening continued with a spirited live auction led by Ski Censke of Estate 411 Auctions, marking his third year of supporting the event. The night concluded with an emotional speech by Joelle Bolton, honoring the late Keith Bolton, a dedicated board member and volunteer who left a lasting impact on the organization.

The success of this event would not have been possible without the incredible support of sponsors.

Platinum Sponsors: The Dempsey Family, Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza, Charleston Peak Winery, Desert View Hospital, Soroptimist, Tasha Douglas – Realtor, 2nd Amendment Guns & Accessories, Valley Electric Association, Pelican Psychiatry
Gold Sponsors: Vincent and Arlene Poerio, Pahrump Valley Garage Door, Old Republic Title, Nevada Homes
Silver Sponsors: Law Office of Robin M. Holseth, Horizon Market

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to provide treatment, housing, and other essential client necessities, ensuring that Living Free Health continues to be a lifeline for those in need.

With a record-breaking turnout and a significant amount raised, the 2024 Living Free Art for Recovery fundraiser set a new benchmark for community support. The event showcased the power of art, generosity, and compassion in transforming lives and reinforcing the vital work of Living Free Health.

*A special thank you to Soroptimist and Living Free Health for the photos.
