The Pahrump Valley High School Lady Trojans put forth a strong effort in a tough matchup against the SLAM Bulls on Friday, January 17. Despite the physical nature of the game, the Trojans played with focus and teamwork throughout.
The opening quarter saw SLAM take an early lead, outscoring the Trojans 17-7. Savannah Thompson contributed with a two-point field goal, Ryleigh Denton hit both of her free throws, and Riley Saldana added three points by going three for four at the line.
In the second quarter, the Trojans stayed competitive, adding 10 points to their score. Thompson and Denton each made two-point field goals, while Saldana delivered at both the free-throw line and with two additional two-point baskets. By halftime, SLAM held a 27-17 advantage, but the Trojans remained engaged.
During the third quarter, SLAM extended their lead, scoring 17 points. The Trojans continued to find scoring opportunities, with contributions from Jules Ondrisko and Cindal Monahan, who each made a two-point field goal. Denton added two points, and Ella Odegard was perfect at the line, making both of her free throws.
The Trojans continued to battle in the fourth quarter, adding seven points. Saldana scored two two-point field goals, Trinity French contributed two points, and Ondrisko added one from the free-throw line. SLAM closed out the game with a final score of 56-32, securing the win.
Despite facing challenges in this rebuilding season, the Lady Trojans are showing steady signs of improvement. As a young team, they have encountered struggles with defense and breaking a full-court press, but their progress is evident with each game. With the season nearing its end, the Trojans continue to develop their skills and build a stronger foundation for future success.
