The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team faced off against Western High School (California) in an exciting dual meet at home on Thursday. The Trojans put up a fierce fight, under spotlight and in front of an enthusiastic crowd, but fell just short, losing 39-36.

Despite the outcome, the night was filled with standout performances and positive energy. Joaquin Flores (126 pounds) set the tone with a win by pin, while Ryan Hamlin (150 pounds) and Austin Alvarez (157 pounds) also secured pins to earn key points for the team. Iyan Bosket won a hard-fought match on points, and Oscar Bosket (190 pounds) delivered a powerful pin to bring the crowd to its feet. Dane Clayton (165 pounds) contributed with a win by forfeit, adding to the Trojans’ tally.

The dual came down to the heavyweight match, a fitting conclusion as Head Coach Frank Lopez and Western’s coach were former heavyweight wrestling partners in college. Reflecting on the match, Coach Lopez shared, “It was a good time hosting an old buddy and former college teammate. They run a solid program and have tough kids. They were impressed with the turnout of our home crowd and enjoyed the night. Fitting that the dual would come down to our heavyweights to decide who wins the dual. We came up short, but we wrestled tough, and there’s no shame losing to a program like that.”

The night highlighted the camaraderie of the wrestling community, the competitive spirit of the Trojans, and the unwavering support of the Pahrump Valley fans. The team looks forward to building on this experience as they continue their season, demonstrating the grit and determination that define PVHS athletics.

With every match, the Trojans are proving they are a team to watch, combining skill, heart, and a commitment to representing their school with pride.
