Student Shoutout: Kayden Doubleday’s Dedication to Giving Back

Kayden Doubleday, a freshman at Pahrump Valley High School, is making a lasting impact in his community through his dedicated volunteer efforts at Hafen Elementary School. Recognized by Hafen’s Assistant Principal, Mr. Wiley, Kayden has become a familiar and valued presence at his former school, where he volunteers his time to support events and assist teachers and students.

At just 15, Kayden balances his studies and activities with a strong commitment to giving back. He regularly volunteers at Hafen for events like Trunk or Treat, field days, book fairs, and literacy nights. His contributions often extend beyond just event days—he’ll even drop by after school if his schedule allows, lending a helping hand wherever it’s needed. “If a teacher needs help, I help them,” Kayden says, emphasizing his flexible and generous spirit.

Kayden’s interest in helping others runs deep. As a member of the Sheriff’s Office Explorers Program, he is already preparing for his dream of a career in law enforcement. His role in the program allows him to experience the work of law enforcement officers first-hand, and he says the skills he’s learning, including patience, observation, and crowd management, translate seamlessly into his work with younger students. “I like being someone the kids can come to if they need anything,” he shared, noting that the connections he forms with Hafen students make the experience even more rewarding.

The staff at Hafen have nothing but praise for Kayden. Stephanie Brooks, the librarian, recalls his time as a student with fondness, noting his “great sense of humor” and the way he stepped up to help in the hallways and during events. “He’s a great role model for our students,” she says, expressing pride in watching Kayden grow and continue his volunteerism even after moving on to high school.

Carrie Dela Rosa, a fourth-grade math teacher, is also delighted to see Kayden’s continued involvement. “He’s overcome a lot in his life and chosen to take positive action to improve his life and the lives of others,” she shared, adding that he brings “a smile to my face when he pops in my room to see if there is anything he can do to help.”

Kayden’s first-grade teacher, Susan Brown, recalls his kindness and helpfulness even from a young age. “He is definitely a great example for all to follow,” she says, proud to see his early traits blossom into lasting values.

Assistant Principal Mr. Wiley describes Kayden as “a godsend of timely and quality help” and notes that Kayden is “universally liked” among Hafen’s staff and students. “He feels like a family member here,” Wiley shared, reflecting on the connections Kayden has maintained at Hafen and the respect he’s earned. Kayden’s growth and leadership are clear to all, with Wiley humorously noting that “he grows about 1/2 inch per week—he’s taller every time I see him!”

Kayden’s story is a reminder of the positive impact young people can make in their communities. His dedication to helping younger students, supporting teachers, and giving back to Hafen Elementary is not only inspiring to his peers but also deeply appreciated by those around him. As Kayden looks forward to a future in law enforcement, the lessons he’s learning through his community service are setting a strong foundation for his goals—and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
