The Pahrump Valley High School Cross Country team hosted a home meet at Discovery Park on Wednesday, September 25, competing against Bonanza, Mojave, and Cheyenne (girls only) in tough conditions as temperatures soared just shy of 100 degrees, with a dusty breeze blowing throughout the race. Despite the heat, the Trojans ran impressively, showcasing their endurance and determination as they prepare for their next race at Foothill on Saturday.

The girls kicked off the day with strong performances across the board. Aurora Whitney led the pack, finishing first, followed closely by Savannah Thompson, who secured second place. Alexis Clouser finished in fourth place, while Sasha Strain (7th) and Alejandra Abarca-Franco (8th) also placed in the top 10. The rest of the team, including Keelee Gieni, Ella Odegard, and Kimberly Trejo, pushed through the challenging conditions and tough course to finish strong.

Joaquin Flores claimed third place, followed by Timmy Stutzman (4th), Joshua Flores (5th), and Jacob McLaughlin (7th), all finishing in the top 10. The rest of the team, including Jacob Seeback, Josh Gent, Logan Tilley, Daniel Thompson, Nathan Miller, Tanner Gott, Isaac Norton, Noah Flores, Keldan Frederiksen, Sam Grabbe, Ethan Johnson and Kamden Moore rounded out the strong showing.

Head Coach Erik Odegard was pleased with the team’s performance despite the heat and is optimistic about the upcoming race at Foothill this weekend.

Coach Odegard also expressed his gratitude to Joseph Rivera and his company, JR Hardscapes, for their invaluable help in clearing and preparing the course for the race, ensuring a smooth and safe event for all participants. Additionally, he extended his thanks to Rubalcaba’s restaurant for graciously allowing the use of their facilities for bathroom needs during the race, accommodating both racers and fans. “We couldn’t have pulled off this meet without their support, and we truly appreciate their generosity,” Odegard said.
