The Nye County School District (NCSD) is calling on parents, students, teachers, staff, and community members to participate in a statewide survey regarding potential changes to high school start times. The survey, organized by the Nevada State Board of Education (NDE), aims to gather input from across the state as part of a larger discussion on how start times could impact student success.

The survey explores various aspects of adjusting high school start times, such as how changes might affect student attendance, behavior, and academic performance. According to NDE, the feedback will be crucial in shaping decisions that could result in new legislation during the 2025 legislative session.

Superintendent Dr. Joe Gent emphasized the importance of local participation, stating, “We strongly believe that the voices of our Nye County community should be heard on this matter. This survey provides a valuable opportunity to share your perspectives with the state as we move into the 2025 legislative session. Whether you live in Pahrump, Tonopah, Amargosa Valley, or any of our unique communities, your input is important.”

The survey, accessible through the Nevada Department of Education’s website, is open to all community members and will remain available until October 4, 2024. The input collected from this survey will play a key role in informing the Nevada State Board of Education’s approach to this issue, which could have far-reaching effects for students across the state.

NCSD remains committed to ensuring a high-quality education for all students and believes community participation will help ensure any changes to high school start times reflect the best interests of students and their families.
