The RCMS cross country team delivered an impressive performance at the Larry Burgess – Las Vegas Invitational on September 7 at Sunset Park, a race renowned for its large fields and competitive atmosphere. With over 100 runners competing in each race, the event offered a valuable opportunity for the athletes to test their skills against tough competition.

Coach Ben Veloz expressed pride in the team’s efforts, noting, “This race at Sunset Park is always very well attended. It is a great experience for our runners, and the big field always brings out everyone’s competitive spirit.”

Rylan Bliss and Addy Murphy were standouts, both earning medals once again this weekend. Out of 127 runners, Rylan ran a sub-7-minute mile, finishing with an impressive time of 9:05, earning 5th place overall. Addy kept a strong, consistent pace throughout the 1.3-mile race, finishing in 10:03 and securing her place among the top competitors.

In the boys’ race, which featured 154 runners, eighth-grader Nico Money made a memorable debut in his first-ever cross country race. Nico earned a medal with a time of 8:37, securing 13th place. Zander Thompson also had a strong race, finishing at 8:42 and claiming 16th place, while seventh-grader Kamdon Jones continued to impress with a 9:05 finish, earning 26th place.

On the boys’ side, Jaxson Cataneda, Jacob DeSantiago, Jacob Harker, Ozias Ofseur, Mozes Quinonez, and Isaiah Veloz all put forth a tremendous effort. Coach Veloz anticipates further improvement from all of the athletes as the season progresses.
