The PVHS girls’ volleyball team had a challenging week, facing tough competitors in their matches against Moapa and Meadows. On Thursday, August 29, the Trojans traveled to Moapa, where they faced their rivals in a fiercely contested match but ultimately fell 3-1. The set scores were 9-25, 9-25, 25-18, and 14-25, reflecting a hard-fought effort from the team.
Riley Saldana led the Trojans with 9 kills, showcasing her offensive skills and determination on the court. Heavenly Ware was a strong presence at the net, contributing 8 total blocks and providing a solid defensive effort against Moapa’s attacks. Bryn Mazlo also made significant contributions with 12 digs, demonstrating her defensive prowess in keeping the ball in play.
The team returned home on Tuesday, September 3, to face Meadows in another tough match. Despite their efforts, the Trojans were unable to secure a win, losing 3-0 with set scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-16. Head Coach Veronica Montanez acknowledged the team’s struggles but remained optimistic, saying, “We just have to keep on pushing each other.”
In the match against Meadows, Heavenly Ware once again led the team defensively with 5 solo blocks and 14 attacks, earning 1 kill. Xeane Kamanu was active in the back row, contributing 10 digs and 16 receptions, showing her reliability in both defense and serve reception.
As the season progresses, the team is focused on improvement. Coach Montanez and the players are committed to working hard, supporting each other, and building on their performances in each game. With continued effort and determination, the Trojans look to turn their season around and showcase their full potential on the court.
