    Bryan Wulfenstein – Class of 2003

    Bryan Wulfenstein, a proud graduate of PVHS, has crafted a path that blends family legacy, hard work, and community service. Graduating from PVHS, Bryan’s post-high school journey was marked by a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Jamaica and two years of college at Dixie State University (now Utah Tech), where he pursued business management before returning home to get married and dive into the workforce.

    Bryan’s career has been a natural progression from his upbringing in a family-owned business. “Pretty much ever since I can remember, I’ve been at job sites, aggregate quarries, running front end loaders, and different machines,” he recalls. Today, he serves as the President of Wulfenstein Construction, a general engineering company focusing on aggregate supply, asphalt paving, and general land development.

    One of Bryan’s fondest high school memories is participating in the “Every 15 Minutes” program, a drunk driving awareness event held the week before prom. He played the role of the drunk driver in this impactful program, despite never having consumed alcohol himself. “It was a really, really cool experience,” he reflects, emphasizing the program’s engagement with students and staff.

    In high school, Bryan was active in sports, playing football, basketball, and golf all four years. He was also a member of the jazz band, where he played the trumpet and participated in several competitions and events. “We went to several competitions, different events in town with Mr. White,” he recalled. “I had a great time doing that.” These experiences shaped his high school years and contributed to his personal growth.

    Bryan’s career journey is rooted in his family’s business. Starting at a young age, he gained hands-on experience that eventually led to more significant responsibilities. At 23, his father entrusted him with a major project, the construction of a detention center during a challenging recession period. This experience taught Bryan valuable lessons about community, responsibility, and problem-solving. “It was a controversial project because it’s a prison, and I learned a lot about the community and people in general,” he shares.

    One of the most significant influences on Bryan’s career and personal development has been his sense of duty to continue the family legacy. “My grandpa started it, my dad has continued to run it, and I’ve been engaged my whole life,” he explains. However, Bryan’s passion for his work goes beyond familial obligation. “I love interacting with people and building things,” he says, highlighting his genuine enthusiasm for his career.

    Throughout his career, Bryan has faced the challenge of overcoming perceptions of being the “owner’s kid.” He worked hard to prove himself and earn the respect of his colleagues. “I had to really work extra hard to prove myself to the people that I was with, that I’m not just being handed something,” he emphasizes.

    Bryan has learned several important lessons in his professional journey, including the necessity of staying engaged and vigilant in his work. “You can’t be lazy at all,” he states. He also values being connected with his working team, recognizing that they are crucial to the success of any project.

    For those aspiring to follow a similar career path, Bryan advises, “Learn everything you can about it and don’t be afraid to dive in.” He stresses the importance of being a self-starter and taking initiative without needing constant supervision.

    Beyond his professional life, Bryan is deeply involved in his community. He serves in a leadership position in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and on the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s committee. Additionally, he is the President of the school board, where he has been a member for almost three years.

    Bryan has been married to his wife Suzie for almost 18 years, and they share four children together: Jace (16), Cade (15), Trey (14), and Emri (12), and a mini dachshund, Coco. Balancing his professional and personal life requires careful communication and consideration, especially with a special needs son. Bryan and Suzie prioritize discussing the impact of their commitments on their family before making decisions. “If you’re not unified in it, it’s just misery,” he notes.

    Staying connected with PVHS is also important to Bryan, as three of his four children will attend the school next year. His involvement extends beyond his children’s education; in addition to serving on the school board he actively supports sports. “I do support the sports, I always have. Our family always has,” he says, mentioning his Aunt Cindy Colucci, who has long been involved with the football booster club. His family’s company has also donated annually for over 40 years to recognize outstanding male and female athletes, a tradition Bryan proudly continues.

    Outside of his professional commitments, Bryan enjoys racing automobiles, a family tradition started by his grandfather and continued by his father. He occasionally participates in races, and while he used to do CrossFit and play basketball, available time has limited his ability to participate in those activities. He also enjoys hunting and fishing. “I’m a pretty easy-going person,” he adds, reflecting on his varied interests and hobbies.

    Looking ahead, Bryan’s primary goal is to maintain stability for his family and business. “I don’t have any plans to conquer the earth, but not losing anything that I’ve worked to get is important,” he says. He is also focused on ensuring long-term support for his special needs son, Trey, after his other children have graduated.

    Bryan’s journey is a testament to the importance of family, hard work, and community engagement. As he continues to lead Wulfenstein Construction and serve his community, Bryan remains committed to growth, stability, and making a positive impact.

    Reflecting on his life and career, Bryan shares a valuable insight: “Life is weird. You have an idea, and then things just happen. Sometimes you have to fight against the grain to get where you’re headed.” His story is a reminder that with dedication and perseverance, it’s possible to navigate the unexpected and achieve great success.
