Pink flamingos are making their way around Pahrump this October as Soroptimist International of Pahrump Valley adds a special touch to its flocking fundraiser in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Throughout the month, each flocking will include pink awareness ribbons, with some of the flamingos also sporting breast cancer awareness fabric bandanas. The colorful displays offer a playful way to bring attention to the cause while raising money to support cancer care in the community.
A $40 donation sends a flock to a location, where the flamingos will remain for three to four days before moving along to their next stop. Half of the proceeds from all flockings scheduled in October will be donated to Hope Cancer Centers of Nevada here in Pahrump. That means each October flocking will generate $20 for the local cancer center.
The first two awareness flockings took place on October 1, launching a month of pink-themed visits. Soroptimist members also purchased special flamingo T-shirts to wear as they carry out the initiative, adding another touch of pink to their fundraising efforts.

The club’s October support extends beyond the flamingo displays. Members purchased and donated items to the Moose Lodge for its Hope bags, contributing to another local effort to support those affected by cancer.

Together, the flockings and donated items give Soroptimist members opportunities to turn Breast Cancer Awareness Month into tangible community support. For residents who participate, sending a flock offers a lighthearted way to brighten someone’s day while helping direct funds to cancer care close to home.
