The Pahrump Valley Little League Major Division champion Aviators took the field in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 26, representing Pahrump in the Tournament of Champions against the MRLL Mets. Although the Aviators came up short on the scoreboard, the team continued to battle throughout the contest while gaining valuable postseason experience against strong competition.

The Aviators opened the game with solid contact from Isaiah P, who singled in the top of the first inning after Sage O and Sebastian T both put the ball in play to begin the game. Nathan Z later battled through a lengthy at-bat before the inning came to a close.

Defensively, the Aviators immediately settled in behind starting pitcher Isaiah P. After the Mets opened the bottom of the first with consecutive hits, the Aviators limited further damage with a groundout fielded by Isaiah and handled at first by Nathan Z. Jace M also made multiple plays in right field early in the game, helping keep the Mets from extending innings further.

The second inning featured more strong defensive work from the Aviators. Isaiah P and Nathan Z connected twice on ground ball outs, while Sebastian T made a clean play at second base to retire another batter. Isaiah also picked up a strikeout to end the inning and keep momentum moving toward the Aviators’ dugout.

At the plate, Amal W worked a patient walk in the second inning, continuing the team’s effort to battle through tough at-bats against Mets pitching.

The Mets added to their lead in the third inning, but the Aviators continued to answer with hustle and defensive effort. Nathan Z and Isaiah P both contributed defensively throughout the inning, while the Aviators also turned a highlight double play when Nathan Z snagged a line drive at first base and quickly doubled off the runner.

In the top of the fourth, the Aviators created one of their best scoring opportunities of the game. Isaiah P singled for his second hit of the evening before Nathan Z drew a walk to put two runners aboard. The pair later advanced into scoring position, but the Mets were able to escape the inning before the Aviators could break through.

Isaiah P continued competing hard on the mound in the bottom of the fourth, striking out three batters in the inning. The Aviators’ defense also remained active behind him, with Mason L recording a putout in left field and the team continuing to communicate well defensively.

The Aviators added another baserunner in the fifth when Wolfe W lined a single into center field. Wolfe later attempted to advance aggressively on the bases, reflecting the Aviators’ continued effort to pressure the defense despite the deficit.

Nathan Z took over on the mound in the fifth inning and helped work out of a difficult situation with help from the middle infield. Isaiah P and Sage O combined on a fielder’s choice play at second base to prevent another run from scoring and close the inning.

The Aviators continued competing until the final out in the sixth inning. Mason L drew a walk to keep the inning alive before Sage O put the ball in play in the final at-bat of the game.

Isaiah P led the Aviators offensively with two hits, while Wolfe W also added a hit. Nathan Z and Amal W each reached base with walks as the team continued to battle throughout the game.

On the mound, Isaiah P struck out five batters over four innings of work before Nathan Z came in to pitch in relief.

While the Tournament of Champions matchup ended in a loss, the Aviators earned the opportunity to represent Pahrump Valley Little League after capturing the Major Division championship and gained valuable experience competing against another league champion on a bigger stage.
