The Pahrump Valley High School softball team delivered a complete performance on Friday, April 10, taking on The Meadows Mustangs on the road and showcasing both timely offense and dominant pitching in a strong outing.

From the opening inning, the Trojans set the tone with disciplined at-bats. Aspen Middaugh worked a leadoff walk to get things started, and while Pahrump Valley was unable to push a run across in the first, they applied early pressure and forced the Mustangs’ defense to make plays.

That momentum carried into the bottom half, where Jaycie Hayes took the circle for the Trojans and immediately made her presence known. After a quick pop out, Hayes struck out back-to-back hitters to end the inning, setting the tone for what would be a dominant performance in the circle.

The Trojans continued to battle in the second inning. Mariah Gray reached on an error and advanced into scoring position, while Olivia Veloz followed with a walk to put two runners on. Though the inning ended without a run, Pahrump Valley continued to show patience at the plate and put pressure on the Mustangs’ defense.

Meanwhile, Hayes remained in complete control. She struck out all three batters she faced in the second inning, continuing a stretch of dominance that kept The Meadows off balance and searching for answers.

Pahrump Valley broke through in the third inning. Middaugh again sparked the offense with a walk and used aggressive baserunning to reach third. Riley Saldaña followed with another walk, and Hayes helped her own cause with a groundout that brought Middaugh home for the game’s first run. Moments later, Jaelyn Rodriguez put the ball in play, allowing Saldaña to score and extend the lead.

The Trojans weren’t finished. With two outs, Veloz delivered a key single to bring in another run, capping a three-run inning and giving Pahrump Valley a 3-0 advantage.

Defensively, Hayes continued to dominate in the circle. She struck out all three batters again in the third inning, tallying another perfect frame and keeping the Mustangs from gaining any momentum.

The fourth inning proved to be the turning point, as the Trojans erupted offensively. Dakota Glenn and Raegan Saldaña reached to open the inning, and Middaugh followed with a well-placed bunt single to load the bases. Riley Saldaña was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Hayes delivered the big swing of the inning—a line-drive double to center field that cleared the bases and stretched the lead.

Pahrump Valley continued to capitalize. Rodriguez reached on an error that brought in another run, and the Trojans kept the pressure on with disciplined at-bats. Sadie Freeman added to the surge with a two-run double, and the Trojans eventually pushed their lead into double digits in a dominant offensive display.

Even with the big lead, the Trojans stayed locked in defensively. Hayes continued to lead the way in the circle, mixing pitches effectively and recording strikeout after strikeout. She worked through the fourth inning with composure, stranding runners and limiting any potential rally by The Meadows.

In the fifth inning, Rodriguez added another extra-base hit with a double, highlighting her strong day at the plate, but the Trojans were unable to add to their total. It made little difference, however, as Hayes returned to the circle and closed things out in dominant fashion—striking out all three batters she faced to seal the victory.

Hayes was the standout performer for Pahrump Valley, delivering an exceptional outing in the circle with a string of strikeouts across all five innings while also contributing offensively with a bases-clearing double. Veloz, Freeman, Rodriguez and Middaugh each played key roles at the plate, helping fuel the Trojans’ offensive surge.

With strong pitching, aggressive baserunning and timely hitting throughout the lineup, the Trojans put together a complete team performance and continued to build momentum as the season progresses.
