The Pahrump Valley High School boys golf team opened its season by hosting the 37th annual Pahrump Valley Invitational, welcoming a large and competitive field of 120 golfers for two days of play.

The long-running tournament featured three divisions—Gold, Silver and Maroon Flights—allowing golfers to compete against players with similar scores after the first round. Pahrump Valley entered two teams in the event, Pahrump Valley Gold and Pahrump Valley Maroon, with both squads competing in the Maroon team flight.

By the end of the tournament, Pahrump Valley Gold secured a fifth-place finish in the Maroon flight standings, while Pahrump Valley Maroon placed 12th. The event provided an early opportunity for the Trojans to measure themselves against a deep field while gaining valuable tournament experience to begin the season.

After the first day of competition, individual golfers were sorted into flights based on their opening-round scores. Travis Floyd, Brody Myers, Samson Wagner and Aaron Rily competed in the Silver Flight, while Cayden Cowley, Kamden Moore, Tanner Gott, TC Hone, Keir Sheppard and Caden Briscoe played in the Maroon Flight.

Floyd finished as the Trojans’ top overall scorer across the two-day event, posting a total of 171 to finish at +27. He opened the tournament with an 85 on day one, shooting 42 on the front nine and 43 on the back. Floyd followed that performance with an 86 on day two, carding consistent rounds of 43 and 43.

Cowley also delivered a strong performance, finishing with a two-day total of 177. He shot a 91 in the opening round with a 44 on the front nine and 47 on the back before improving significantly on the second day with an 86, including rounds of 44 and 42. In the Maroon Flight standings, Cowley placed second overall, finishing just two strokes behind the flight champion.

Brody Myers completed the tournament at +36 with a total score of 180. Myers posted an 88 in the first round with even splits of 44 and 44 before finishing with a 92 on day two, shooting 46 on both the front and back nine.

With a large field and strong competition across the three divisions, the Pahrump Valley Invitational once again provided a valuable early-season test for the Trojans as they begin their schedule.

The success of the tournament is made possible each year through the support of community partners, sponsors and volunteers. Special thanks were extended to Mountain Falls Golf Club, including Head Professional Elliott Owens, Course Superintendent Mark Cannedy and their staff, for hosting the event and preparing the course. Appreciation was also given to the Mountain Falls Grill Room, led by Manager Pam and her staff.

Tournament sponsors Chad Goins Farmers Insurance Agency and William Lyons Homes also played an important role in supporting the event.

The invitational also relies on numerous volunteers who assist with operations throughout the tournament. This year’s event was supported by Rick Mazer, Dale Norton, Mike Linner, Tim Duffy, Tina Duffy, Steve Nygaard, Dan Clift, Bob Hopkins, Sarah Hopkins and Elaine Goins.

With the first tournament now complete, the Trojans will look to build on the experience gained at their home invitational as the season continues.
