The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ JV basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance at home on Wednesday, Dec. 10, edging the Green Valley Christian Guardians 54–50 in a competitive, back-and-forth matchup that showcased the Trojans’ growth and consistency.

Green Valley Christian struck first with an early three-pointer, but the Trojans quickly settled in. Josh Gent answered with a three of his own to even the score, and Pahrump stayed within striking distance throughout the opening quarter. Contributions came from across the lineup, with Kamden Moore attacking the basket, Tanner Gott finishing a breakaway layup, and Chasen Hamann and Anthony Montanez scoring inside. Moore capped the quarter with a key three-pointer as the teams headed into the break tied at 17–17.

The Guardians found success from the perimeter early in the second quarter, but the Trojans responded with poised offensive execution. Montanez knocked down a three and added multiple baskets in the paint, while Moore converted a layup off a turnover created by Hamann. Despite Green Valley Christian answering with timely shots, Pahrump closed the half strong to take a 32–30 lead into halftime.

The Trojans took control in the third quarter with disciplined defense and efficient scoring. Montanez drew a charge to shift momentum, then followed with several trips to the free-throw line, converting when it mattered. Moore and Montanez continued to connect on fast-break opportunities, and Josh Gent added a tough bucket near the rim. Bradly Griffin also made his presence felt, scoring inside and drawing fouls. By the end of the third quarter, Pahrump had built a 45–36 advantage.

Green Valley Christian mounted a late push in the fourth, hitting a deep three and scoring on multiple drives to cut into the lead. Moore answered with a pair of baskets, Montanez finished a fast-break layup, and Griffin drilled a three-pointer to keep the Trojans in front. Despite the Guardians closing the gap in the final minute, Pahrump stayed composed, secured key defensive stops, and closed out the game with a 54–50 victory.

Head Coach Royce Avena praised his team’s effort following the win. “This was our most consistent game. From the tip to the final buzzer the boys got after it,” Avena said. “We played as a team and went aggressively to the hole to score.”

The win highlighted balanced scoring, unselfish play, and steady improvement from the Trojans, who showed resilience and teamwork in holding off a determined Green Valley Christian squad.
