    PVHS JV Boys Battle to the Buzzer in Season Finale Thriller

    The Pahrump Valley High School JV Boys’ Basketball team wrapped up their season with a thrilling matchup against Boulder City on Thursday, Feb. 6. The game, played on Boulder City’s home court, was a nail-biter from start to finish, showcasing the Trojans’ resilience and determination.

    Boulder City took an early lead, but the Trojans kept pace with strong plays from their lineup. TC Hone was quick to capitalize on free throws, keeping the team in the game. As the first quarter came to a close, TC Hone sank a jumper to tie the game at 13-13, setting the tone for an exciting battle ahead.

    In the second quarter, PVHS found their rhythm with key contributions from Jack Toth, Samuel Mendoza, and Gavenda. Mendoza hit a three-pointer from the top, and Gavenda followed up with a putback to keep the Trojans ahead. However, Boulder City answered with a run of their own, taking a 29-22 lead into halftime.

    The Trojans came out strong in the third quarter, determined to close the gap. Hone and Gavenda contributed crucial points, with Mendoza draining another three-pointer to give PVHS a 34-32 lead. Gavenda and Mendoza continued to push the pace, ending the quarter with the Trojans ahead 41-39.

    As the fourth quarter unfolded, the game remained tight. Gavenda drove in for a critical and-one play, and Jamiah Mendenhall stepped up with key rebounds and points in the paint. With less than a minute left, Mendenhall tied the game at 53-53 after a clutch rebound and putback. The final moments saw both teams trading fouls and free throws, leading to a dramatic 55-55 tie at the end of regulation.

    Overtime delivered even more excitement. Mendenhall fought hard, scoring off a rebound while drawing a foul, putting PVHS up 57-55. Mendoza nailed a clutch three-pointer from the right corner to tie the game at 60-60. Gavenda grabbed his own rebound for a putback, giving the Trojans a 62-60 lead. With the clock winding down, Boulder City made a final push, tying the game once again at 62-62. In the final moments, Boulder City managed to sink a three-pointer at the buzzer to secure a 65-62 victory.

    Though the game ended in a heartbreaking loss, the Trojans displayed heart and teamwork throughout the contest. They fought until the final second, leaving everything on the court in their last game of the season. The effort and determination shown by the players reflect the hard work they put in all season, making this finale a game to remember.
