The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans Boys’ Varsity basketball team traveled to face the Boulder City Eagles in their final game of the season on Thursday, February 6th. While the scoreboard may not have reflected their efforts, the Trojans showcased teamwork and determination from start to finish.
The starting lineup featured Tramaine Burras, Josh Slusher, Aydon Veloz, Alejandro (Alex) Lozano, and Keir Sheppard. The Trojans got off to a strong start, securing the first possession, and Slusher capitalized on a rebound to put Pahrump on the board early. However, Boulder City responded quickly, and by the end of the first quarter, the Trojans found themselves trailing 13-2.
In the second quarter, Burras connected with Slusher for a basket underneath, and Lucas Gavenda made an immediate impact upon entering the game, adding points to the board. The Trojans continued battling, with Burras hitting a shot from the right and Gavenda finding another opportunity to score. Despite their efforts, the Eagles maintained their lead, and Pahrump entered halftime down 34-11.




The third quarter saw the Trojans continuing to push forward. Aydon Veloz added a free throw after being fouled, and Jack Toth, after an initial turnover, found his rhythm and drained a three-pointer. The team fought to create opportunities, but the Eagles’ offense kept pace, ending the quarter with Boulder City ahead 54-16.
In the final quarter, the Trojans kept their energy up, showcasing strong plays. Eric Figueroa Renteria hit a three-pointer, and Burras sank both free throws after drawing a foul on a drive. One of the game’s highlights came with just under four minutes remaining when Burras executed a powerful breakaway dunk, bringing excitement to the Trojan bench. Antwahn Jackson and Cartier Jenkins added baskets, with Jackson scoring twice in the final minute, helping Pahrump finish strong.





Despite the final score of 65-31, the Trojans never stopped fighting. Their persistence, hustle, and teamwork were evident throughout the game, providing a strong foundation for the future. As they close out this season, the team looks forward to building on their experiences and coming back stronger next year.
