The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans Boys’ Varsity basketball team hit the road to take on the Del Sol Dragons in Las Vegas on Wednesday, January 29. Despite a tough 58-29 loss, the Trojans displayed grit and hustle throughout the game.

The Trojans came out fighting, with Cartier Jenkins sinking an early three-pointer to put PVHS on the board. Defensive pressure from Josh Slusher forced an offensive five-second violation, setting the tone for a competitive opening quarter. Tramaine Burras contributed at the free-throw line, and Alejandro Lozano added a late bucket to keep Pahrump in the fight, ending the first quarter trailing 21-8.

The second quarter proved challenging as Del Sol’s offensive rhythm gained momentum. Burras battled under the basket, adding another score, while Jack Toth and Keir Sheppard looked for opportunities to spark the offense. By halftime, the Trojans faced a 41-10 deficit but remained determined to compete.

The second half saw key contributions from Caden Briscoe, who entered the game and made an immediate impact with a quick bucket. Lozano continued his strong drives to the rim, and Slusher dished out an assist to Briscoe for another key score. As the game progressed, the Trojans rotated in fresh players, giving opportunities to other teammates.

Aydon Veloz started the fourth quarter with a rebound and putback, showcasing his presence in the paint. Toth drilled a three-pointer, while Lozano and Eric Figueroa Renteria added to the tally. Late in the game, Antwahn Jackson stepped up at the free-throw line, knocking down both of his shots to round out the Trojans’ scoring efforts.

With only a few games remaining in the season, the Trojans will look to finish strong, even though they will unfortunately not make the playoffs. Despite the challenges, the team has continued to show heart, growth, and resilience, making the most of every opportunity on the court. Their dedication and determination remain unwavering as they close out the season with pride.
