The Pahrump Valley High School Junior Varsity wrestling team made a strong showing at the Clark Individual Tournament on Friday and Saturday, January 24-25, securing a third-place finish out of 36 teams. Competing against top-tier programs, the Trojans demonstrated their growth and determination, with several wrestlers earning individual placements.

Leading the way for PVHS, Jacob McLaughlin (132) battled through the bracket to take third place with a 6-1 record. Ben De Santiago (138) secured second place after an impressive 5-1 performance, while Paul Walker (165) also finished second, going 4-1 in his matches. Billy Sparks (190) showcased his resilience, wrestling eight matches and finishing fourth with a 6-2 record. Ryan Hamlin (150) and Sonny Skinner (190) both placed sixth in their respective weight classes, while heavyweight wrestler Julio Ackerman finished third with a 5-1 record.

Beyond individual success, the team effort was evident across the board. Several Trojans put together solid performances, including Zach Hulderson (3-2), Azael Machuca (2-2), Emmanuel Alvarez (3-2), Kelsen Cross-Smith (3-2), Jacob Stepp (3-2), Jairo Bravo (3-2), Alejandro Rayas (2-2), and Bryce Howard (3-2), among others. Their collective efforts contributed to PVHS securing a podium finish, behind only two dominant 5A programs.

Head Coach Mike Colucci praised his team’s performance and their steady progress this season.
“Twenty-eight wrestlers competed in this two-day tournament, and the boys wrestled hard,” Colucci said. “They’ve shown great improvement from the start of the season until now, and we’re excited for the future of PVHS Trojan Wrestling!”

With their continued dedication and development, the Trojans are proving to be a rising force in Nevada wrestling. Their third-place team finish against tough competition is a testament to their hard work and commitment, and it sets the stage for even greater success in the future.

*A special thank you to Mike Colucci for the photos.
