The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans wrestling team demonstrated tenacity and competitive spirit during their tournaments on the weekend of January 3rd and 4th. The varsity team traveled to Centennial High School, facing a challenging schedule of duals and an individual tournament, while the girls’ team showcased their determination in an individual tournament at Sierra Vista High School.

In the varsity duals, the Trojans kicked off with a thrilling 45-34 victory against Cimarron, followed by an intense 36-34 win over SLAM. Although they fell to Foothill, 12-53, and Bishop Gorman, 30-42, the team’s overall effort highlighted their resilience and ability to compete against tough opponents. These matches set the stage for individual competition, where several wrestlers put on noteworthy performances.

Joaquin Flores (126) delivered a standout performance, battling his way to a 2-1 record and earning second place in his weight class. Oscar Bosket (190) was a force to be reckoned with, dominating the mat to finish 3-0 and clinching first place in his weight class. Paul Walker (175) also showcased grit, ending with a 3-2 record. Jacob Stepp (175) contributed with a solid 1-1 performance, and Ben De Santiago (138) and Joey Scheer (113) each secured a win during their matches. Despite challenging outings for some of their teammates, the Trojans demonstrated determination and perseverance throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, the girls’ team took on fierce competition at Sierra Vista High School, participating in an individual tournament that underscored their drive and progress. Payton Weaver (120) led the way with an impressive 4-3 record, displaying both skill and resilience. Sarah Penner (120) and Amelia Graziano (155) fought valiantly, gaining valuable experience that will undoubtedly contribute to their growth as athletes.

The weekend’s tournaments provided the Trojans with opportunities to sharpen their skills, test their mettle, and prepare for the rest of the season. Wrestling fans can catch their next match at home at Pahrump Valley High School on Thursday, January 9, beginning at 6 p.m. With individual successes and team victories to build on, PVHS wrestling is poised for continued growth and achievement in the coming competitions.
